Hey Guys,
Was just going through all the posts for the 5th time tonight, and wondered what everyones background was for the original day job. Me I'm a programmer/designer in automotive thought it would be interesting to see where everyone else is coming from.
Been a Professional Photog for about 6 years now. Originally started out with video production (did a few weddings with video and HATED it!) about 10 years ago. Have done everything from local government productions to healthcare productions to snowboard films. Been doing weddings now for 3 years part time, 6 months full time.
I teach part-time at a university (Liberal Studies & Ethics), write a regular column for a magazine & do consulting for an ethics review board that approves pharmaceutical research in human subjects. Most of my career has had to do with writing, either as a PR professional or for publications. Over the years, I have had several jobs where I needed to turn in 'art' (photos) with each story, which is the current case. For years I wrote for the local daily paper & had to submit photos as part of that gig. I'm still very much a learner for dSLR stuff, though. For that matter, a learner for serious photography all the way around.
I've been in the video/film production business for nearly 40 years. Funny thing is that I started out to become a photographer (have an associates degree in photography) then got sidetracked by the film business and went to Brooks to study cinematography. I was in their first ever class on the subject.
I got back into still photography in ernest last year when I started my business. While cameras, lenses, f/stops, shutter speeds, ISO, etc. are all second nature to me, I had to "relearn" photography from the digital perspective. Things have a way of changing over the years.
corporate trainer for an awesome computer company... shhh cant say who... 6 years doing weddings professionally and 11 years shooting professionally. o yea im 28 too...
In addition to school, I work at www.doggonegood.com doing the product photography, warehousing, shipping, IT work, and anything else since the company is the owner & me. In addition to all that, I'm slowly growing my own photography business.
