To those that are still following this, I had hoped that tomorrow will be the last of these, but it looks like I'll need 2 more posts after this. Some of my favorites from this trip are still to come. I've been keeping more or less to chronological order, and Tortuguero was the high point of the trip for me.
I'm sure I'm boring at least half this board to death, so I'll try to keep it short. This set spans Arenal, travel from Arenal to Serapiqui, time in Serapiqui, and travel to Tortguero.
Anyhow, as usual the EXIF data is intact in all of my images. I welcome and encourage C&C - no need to pull punches

The first 3 are not terrific photos, but they document some bird species. They're not horrible, just not as good as I would have liked. They were all taken on the Arenal Observatory grounds at various locations.
4 thru 6. Here is a series of 3 photos of a pair of Collared Aracari. Once again I was shooting through a small opening in the trees. There is also a Fire-billed Aracari in Costa Rica that has a largely red bill, but sadly, we did not see this variety. These were taken near Fortuna.
7. An Iguana through some foliage. We stopped at this restaurant along side a small river where there was a tree with literally dozens of iguana lying around in the branches. I do have some photos of the tree, but they don't do the scene justice. I took this image near that tree. http://www.edrotberg.org/images/Iguana%20lying%20low.jpg
8. Poncho - the Howler. At the same location as above, there was a lone Howler Monkey - a young male - who had apparently been kicked out of his family. The locals pointed him out to us as he was foraging leaves from a tree along the river bank. This photo was taken from the bridge going over that river, so we were able to shoot down for a change. http://www.edrotberg.org/images/Howler%20Monkey%20-%20Poncho%203.jpg
The last four images are a series taken from the boat that took us to Tortuguero. We saw this Crocodile sunning on the bank and moved closer. You can see his reaction up until he shot off into the water. All of these images are full frame.
I am mesmerized by these stunning images Ed and your fine processing on them! Each is a treat all its own with great anticipation to scroll to the next and be amazed. Fine job on putting the comps together and catching the light. Wow, and that only touches the surface
Another wonderful set Ed and great to see images of so many new (to me at least) subjects. Love your commentary too and the info to go with each pic or set.
You got pretty great ones of the croc with fantastic detail.
No need to worry about boring us with these pics Ed. Keep them coming.
Martin
Awesome Ed, keep them coming please. We've been to Costa Rica twice, following much the same route as your photos show. I know the challenges involved and it looks to me you've done a wonderful job. Your images just serve to remind me how badly I want to go back.

Thanks so much Karl. I'm glad you are enjoying the series.

Ed,
That last shot should get you in Nat Geo!
Looks like a very successful/rewarding photo trip.
Dan
Thanks Dan. I'm partial to the last photo too, but I sometimes wonder if it is not too "generic". The really cool part are all of the bugs on the Croc's face throughout all of these photos. I guess they don't really feel them

Thank you Martin. I hope your sentiment is shared. I really don't want to turn people off with this series of posts, but I'm really thrilled with a number of the images that I got.

phew.. those fangs on the croc screams- DONOT MESS WITH ME!!!! Beautiful Set Ed.
Thanks Shiva. It did seem like he was trying to send a message. There was actually a 5th photo in between the 2nd and 3rd of the croc series where he is starting to open his mouth. He did this really slowly, so I'm pretty certain that it was a warning gesture. Very cool to see in person.

Thank for the encouragement Rob. I know that I too, would love to go back. But I'd also like to stay a lot longer as well.
