No idea if any of what I take is objectively good but I'm having a blast! - Old places are what I like best.

Thanks - some are older shots some newer but they're my favorites.
Having a blast is what it's all about, unless you're a pro
Technically, your shots are very good. Properly exposed, good color and contrast, etc. What you're still working on is composition...it's not always clear what you took a picture *of*. The guy under the scaffolding and the kid at the Washington Monument...very good. The barn pictures...I think they'd have been better if they showed the entire barn, or focused more closely on a detail.
That's just my opinion though...I'm still working on composition too
Thanks - real intersting you should say that! - I guess it's my attempt at abstract? I'm asking b/c I just like shots like the tobacco barn and the beach house. I thought I was weaker on the technical side! I'll just keep trying. Memory cards are cheap and renewable!
The "grave tree" shot is blurred now that I look at it - I posted a bad version. It was really tough to get a good shot - summer shade, thunderstorm looming, sunlight occasionally peaking through (see the background).
The old truck is a simple favorite of mine. Shot with my 400d and 28-135 out of my truck window - no cropping or pp. It hangs in my living room and sometimes I wonder if anyone else thinks it's decent. Same with the field - I've always like it but not sure if it appeals to others.
The octagon is actually an abandoned carousel at an abandoned "mini amusement park" on an abandoned island that was a thriving beach community. I have some great other shots of the houses, etc. left abandoned when the only bridge to the island burned and the city (which owned the land) condemned all of the houses (which had long term leases). Pretty freaky scene since people had no more access and were only given a few days to "boat" stuff out of their houses. Furniture is still in place, cars, etc. Here are a few in addition to #3 above (also from the same place):
I'm interested in seeing more of your shots next time you post. You definately seem to have an eye for what makes a good subject. I partially agree with the above composition comments. I think if you're going for abstract, I'd shoot "less" of a subject. Maybe just concentrate on a part of a subject, like you have in the tower shot with the rich blue sky. It's not entirely clear what that is, and that just may be the beauty of it. But when shooting a building or similar type shot, I think chopping off the roof or the sides takes away a little from the appeal. I can tell that you go around looking for possibilities...and this means you're starting to think like a photographer...which is good! I hope this helps...I do mean well, and did enjoy these!
Thanks Matt - I appreciate the feedback - it's peak foliage this weekend here so I have to get out between all of the kids' soccer games and get off the computer.
hey dave...welcome to the forums!...good to see your shots here...they are composed well. try to post smaller sizes next time ...looking fwd for more in the future
