You should know that Nikon is the one who puts the D first, not canon
Unless of course you're talking about the D30
Or the D60
Don't be confused though, that is much older than the 50D
But when they made the 10Dthey moved the D to the back, which is newer than the D30 but not newer than the 30D
So somehow we moved the numbers around to come up with a newer camera that both looks older and newer than the 30D and D60 yet is quite a bit older than the 50D which in fact is newer than the 30D but not younger than the D60 and in fact is a bit different than the D30
And please, don't confuse any of this with the 450D, which is a different camera entirely
It's confusing, i know but it probably proves a point...if you're paying attention. The bottom line is that all of these are great cameras, and if you can't take a good photograph with any of these then you are wasting your money and should probably buy a 35f...err, 35mm film camera
My vote would be for an ae-1, cheap and plenty of accessories.

Ahhh...the AE-1. Bought one of the first ones(not Program) in 1976 (?) I was going to take it on my Grand Tour of Europe, but never made it past Washington DC. Had no idea what it was, but another guy at the counter urged me to buy it, and with the 1.4 instead of the 1.8. Later got the Speedlite 99A and a FD 200mm f/4. Had a blast, and it went everywhere with me for years, until our first digital - the Canon A10.
I later sold the AE-1 and stuff for $150. Thanks for posting.

The world is small. Got the AE-1 in 1976 too I believe, with the FD 200, can't remember the speedlite model number though.
A year or so later upgraded to the A-1.
Nice cameras they were.

It was the D60, not the 60D dude. The 10D was when the XXD was born.
Right. The 10D was an upgrade of the D60, with the same sensor (or at least the same # of pixels). From that point, at least the nomenclature became consistent.
10D>20D>30D>40D>50D
