p.1 #1 · External USB Hard Drives Enclosure

I am in need of good USB 2.0 External Hard drives enclosure for 2 to 4 hard drives that can accommodate 1TB of drive each. What is the best to buy for reasonale amount that won't break my wallet/bank. And what 500GB to 1TB drive will you recommend for this enclosure. The links to the products will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Thermaltake BlacX w/ esata.

Got one and love it.

If you have extra $$, maybe the Drobo.

Mufutau,

I just bought (2) 1TB Seagate 7200.11 HDD's, to run in a Raid 1 configuration, to back up all my important images & files.

HDD Link Here

This is the enclosure, I also bought. It only works in a Raid 1 Config, but man is it quiet, and FAST, as it has FW800/400, & USB 2.0 Connections. I use the FW800 myself.

Link Here

This is another enclosure, that may work for your needs. It is configurable as either Raid 0 or JBOD. And has FW800/400 & USB 2.0 too.

Link Here

Both enclosures' accept 1TB no problem at all.

I'm not sure any enclosure will handle 500MB HDD's, If you can still find them.

Good Luck,

James

Thanks for the suggestions and links. I will explore them. On the Hard drive, I meant 500GB not 500MB, that was a typo. I have edited my earlier message to reflect that. Thanks.

Do you really want USB? Do you want the drives to show up individually?

I would think a port multiplier capable esata card+enclosure would be something to check out.
One example of a sata enclosure is this, which is $44/drive. A USB enclosure is this, at $70/drive. Individual enclosures, like this at $14/drive are quite cheap as well. Not fun to stack or power, but functional.

Thanks Invalid2. The only option I have is the USB 2.0 connection. I have an HP Pavilion Elite m9250f, there are no more drive bays left in the system, no more option to install external Sata card in the system.. so I have to go the USB 2.0 route. Thank you for all the links, if everything else fails, I will just get the single drive enclosure like the one you linked for $13.99, it may server its purpose because I need to configure the drives as individual drives anyway. There are so many of this external enclosure around, I just want to get a good one. Thanks again.
