Storms were just clearing at the start of the game. I was trying to add to the mood, bring out the clouds and simulate a more shallow DOF. 20D 10mm f4
Comments, suggestions appreciated.
I don't know, maybe its my eye, but the second one seems more distracting then the first. I think the composition of the image is what hurts it. When I look at the image my eye is drawn to the first yard line on the right which draws my gaze to the ref and the lines in the image keeps me there. The subject is supposed to be the players right? I would use the first image because everything is sharp and my eye seems to stay on the players more. I hope other comment though!!!
I prefer the original... I'm just not buying that fake shallow DOF. I would clone out the big light pole, and create subject/background separation by dodging and burning, and maybe some selective saturation on the players.
Thanks for the comments. I see what you mean about the yardline. I will try another crop to get rid of that. The light pole does seem to be coming out of his head. I can clone that out as you suggest.
The Gaussian blur work makes the picture look like a cheap fix. The original is much better even with the depth of field being so wide. I would, however, remove the light pole sticking up out of the player's head.
Sorry if that sounds harsh. I've been in the blur world and found that too much of it makes the picture worse instead of better. You will find yourself looking at this picture in the future and wondering just what were you thinking.
the border you put around it distracts to much. however i do like the clouds.
i played with the image quickly and this is what i came up with. all i did was lower the exposure on the clouds a bit. and did a quick burn on the clouds in the middle to help the over exposed white in the center. although i over did the exposure a tad to much and got a slight grainy look. but im sure if you took the original large image and did this and then compressed to this size the graininess would not be noticeable
