This is my first post here pretty since the NCAA season ended in the spring. This was my first game of the year (on Friday), and was my only shooting warm up before the USC-UVa football game on Saturday (photos to be posted later).
This was UVa's first soccer game of the season, and they were upset by unranked St. John's 1-0. This was a fairly physical game that the refs (imo) let get out of hand. By the end of the game UVa had 5 yellow cards, St. John's had 4, and the St. John's head coach was ejected.
Anyway, on to the photos. These were all shot with a 1D Mark III and a 400/2.8. (The EXIF should be embedded for anyone with IExif to look at).
lighting and colors look a little muddy and dull, but I think that's the nature of the field lighting you had to work with. I think 4-5 are the most interesting. I personally like getting low to the ground (looks like you were standing) but shots from lower angles may have replaced that bright pale grass with a darker background to make guys stand out a little better.
Was there a side of the field that was better lit? It looks like you did the best with what you had
Nice captures of some intense action. Perfect timing on #5. For the sake of maximum effect posting here, I'd crop the top and bottom off of that one and straighten the horizon using the pole in the background as your standard. Good luck at Saturday's football game. I'll be shooting my first of the season as well.
