I figured this time of year is the time to learn about this Better Beamer thingie. Monsoon season is here, every afternoon cloud build up and on and off showers. I tried different settings on the flash from +1 to -2/3. I figured I need to figure out what I need when I see something so its practice time. I did very little in Corel to these cuz I wanted to share my tests. If I change the back ground on some I think they could be keepers. I played with the Osprey for about 5 minutes with a exaggerated background
Interesting experiments, Rog. Got a great exposure on that buck but the catch lights in the eyes appear a little unnatural for some reason. Good even exposures in the Osprey and sure beats the alternative of natural light in those conditions.
Yes amigo, looks like there's a bit of flash (?) in the buck's eyes, they don't look like catchlights, what do you think? Otherwise, nicely-detailed shots in #s 1 and 3. I think you'll do just fine with your low-light rig in the Chiricahuas, and it should come in handy in the canyons during low-light in those shorter days of sunlight. But I'm thinking cloudless-skies during the entire 5 days...
Interesting set Roger and well done. I have been thinking about getting flash just for shots like 1 and 3. We have those conditions for months around here and it would be nice to come up with something better than black birds on a blown out sky! Those shots look good, I think your getting the hang of it.

I need to work on the settings some more but the idea is if Mother Nature decides NOT a photo day today, I want to think I still have a chance. I didn't take the time but I should take the reflection light out on the buck, maybe I will do that later.
I have a hard time with flashes on animals. I always end up with red eyes & rabid looking animals.
You've done a lot better than I have.
I like the vulture, & I love the buck, but I do agree with Ken that something feels a tad off with the eyes.
Much better than I do with a flash with wild animals.
Lil
I am happy with my first try but I am going back and try a couple of different setting. I took the reflection out of the buck and I like it a lot better.

Hi Steve, I figured I better practice this low light stuff just in case Mother Nature decides to act up when we are at the Chiricahuas. I like your idea "cloudless-skies during the entire 5 days" I do think they are going to take some work with Photo Paint but that is better than not getting anything.

Thanks Tim, it is going to take some more practice but I do think it is a good thing to learn. I am getting ready to post some YES & NO flash shots so folks can see the difference themselves.
