Nope, not a Blue Grouse... that is the California state bird, the California Valley Quail.

Thanks Ken! That was the best of many.. would not come out from behind the "straw". Bit later found out why as a youngin flew out of the deep stuff and this guy followed. Of course this occurred as I was putting away my stuff.
