p.1 #1 · Side Road Sights... OK... flowers

Hi all. I've been tied up on a project that is very time consuming, but had to go to the doctors today and so I took the camera and did a little touring on the way home.

These were taken on a dusty gravel side road... my favorite kind I don't for the life of me know what the little yellow flowers with the fan-like leaves are, but there are thousands of them in bloom right now just on this road.

The thistle is a common pest around here to the farmers, but I think that they are quite beautiful.

And finally the ( I think someone told me this is called Coreopsis ) larger flower that is also in abundance along the roadsides right now.

I hope you find them of some interest. All taken with the D3 and 105 VR.

Thanks for looking.

Terry

How did you get a pic of thistle without a crawling or hovering bug! Did you spray OFF on it Hopefully yellow brightened your day on the way home. I think coreopsis is correct and I think the last is possibly Moth Mullein? Yellow is the BIG smile color, take care T

Howdy Lou. You know I have some flower books here, but it's so much of a pain to look them up all the time...

Ha... you know you could be right about that velcro...

Thanks Lou.

Hey... wasn't I just talkin to you somewhere? Moth Mullein...huh. Hey that's great... how'd you know that. I'm just a shooter... now a scholar.

Yellow is a SOB to capture detail in. My Nikon Capture NX 2 trial expired and I'm back to processing in Capture NX and it doesn't have the same useful tools as NX 2 ... I have a copy on order... saving some money that way... but I'm getting impatient.

Thanks Karl.

Beautiful Terry,

shot with the D3? OK, just re-read your info & they are. Got to shoot with the 105VR the other day. It's nice. The first three are my top picks.

So did you like the 105 VR a whole bunch Got one on your wish list I have always liked the Nikkor 105mm macro lenses... this is probably the best I have owned. I even like the larger lens barrel. I like to shoot sans tripod and the VR really helps me get steady at marginal shutter speeds.

Thanks for dropping by Lil... I really liked your garden series.

Very kewl thistle Terry. My wife and I have many many thistle patches on our 150 acres. When they go into full bloom (Rare as we spray them or chop them off) they can be quite beautiful with the Purple color.

I notice something on your yellows that I noticed on some of my Red and Yellow flowers. I thought it was just me but you kind of have the same thing going on.
I notice that red and yellow flowers tend to over saturate for some reason................. I had to decrease those channels in my PP on my last post otherwise the yellow middle part of the flower was way over powered with saturation and was literally blown out due to it

Great shots buddy !!! Nothing like a good drive out in the country to get your b/p down a few mm

You are on the money Ant... this time of year the flowers colors tend to be UV and IR reflective ...makes them easier for the pollen eaters to find them... and they are real sensor foolers... I have a devil of a time with them.

You do have to watch the RGB histogram more with these colors, but even then they are a bear. About the only thing to do is under expose to control it.

Hey, sounds like you have a nice piece of ground... that's about the size of the plot that I was shooting at yesterday... lots of meadow birds and wildflowers there... they have it in a gov't soil bank program to just leave it wild... I love it. and my BP loves it too

Thanks Ant...
