p.1 #1 · Canon tripod mount ring

I don't really need, but would like to have a tripod mount ring for my 70-200 f4 lens. I am not about to pay from $150-$200 for a Canon brand.

Has anyone experience with the cheapo $10 brand?

I have only seen a couple of comments on the cheapo ebay rings and they were all bad - Not a good snug fit. I saw a couple of used rings here on FM recently - not as cheap as the ebay stuff but a good fit.

Just read this posting: ............ the ebay chinese ones work really well and are about 15% the cost of a new one.

Here's a way to look at it. You are betting ten bucks against 200. You get the tripod mount ring, and if it works, you hit the 200 dollar jackpot. If it doesn't work, return it.

I bought one of the better knock offs (Roxsen). It doesn't hold the lens as firmly as the OEM one, you can easily twist it when it is fully tightened. So, yeah, I can probably fix it on my own. Am I happy about that? No. This should be a simple thing to manufacture and I don't really want to waste the time on it either.

So you pays your money and you takes your chances. It is a crapshoot on something that is how difficult to manufacture?

Returning it to Asia is not worth the hassle. So, now the good one is $159 instead of $149.

Ordered a cheapo version. Why not? Total of $17 with shipping. I will only use it on odd occasion. Many Canon accessories are just plain overpriced.

When you get it, just put extra glued plastic lining the inside so that it will hold the lens more tightened.

I bought a canon brand one for $70 second hand. As far as I remember, a second hand usually is sold around $70 - $100 here or on craigslist. I would not risk my 70-200 f/4 IS on a $10 ring. :-)
