p.1 #1 · Best Size for Camera Club Competition

I should know this but...

I have been nominated (voted, drafted, volunteered, etc.) the person in charge of the digital portion of our local camera club competitions. I'd like to provide some guidelines for image submission but honestly, I don't have a clue. I have previously submitted full size images on CD, but that's not convenient for all the members. I want them to be able to email me the images but still have them display well. We use the projector at the library where we meet, and unfortunately I don't know anything about it. Is there a standard image size that works for "most" projectors and is small enough to email? FWIW, from my end I put all the images into Lightroom and use the slideshow to run the competition.

TIA for any suggestions.

unless your club has an expensive projector, it's probably going to be 800x600. whatever the highest resolution it supports, that's what you want. it's also not going to be calibrated and you want it to be so. all your images have to be submitted with proper color space tagging and highest quality JPEG ought to be enough.

Projectors are about the worst things to view photos on when it comes to color reproduction. Very unsuitable for judging photos in my opinion.

Why not just go old-school and print the dang things? You can order prints online, and pick them up on the way to the club meeting + it's something you can touch.

People are going to complain no matter what. Aim for the high road, and care not for the whiners.

We have never had a complaint about the projector/color etc. on our digital submissions. We compete in both print and projected (digital and slides). The projected images never do as well as the prints so I always print my better work but it is a nice (inexpensive) way to have a few more images judged.
