p.1 #1 · Chair

Found this chair almost covered, I walked past it once, not seeing it.

Linked to larger image and removed the poor frame. Tell me now, how could I make this better? Thanks

Yeah the light was pretty bad, it was 90F before noon that day.

cool subject. i know that we are on the web, but i have a high resolution screen and this size is a tad to small to really judge if it's nice. looking at it now i think your image lacks a focal point. it's kinda busy. Maybe the light is to harsh. or maybe it is just the size that is killing the effect right now.
I believe this is a nice shot, but just a bit to small right now.

I agree that this is posted too small, and would also add the frame is too thick. Also, I think the subject is interesting, but somehow it doesn't seem like it is the subject in this image. Thanks, Derek

It has something, you need to bring the some contrast between the leaves and the chair. Have you tried some filters, like a green, red or blue

suggest burning in the lighter foliage and edges. create a new layer on top, set to soft light mode, use a very soft black brush set to 17-27%. essentially vignetting the chair. best...skip

I agree with skip about the vignetting if you're ever going to bring out the chair from in amongst the foliage..possibly tweaking the original color image in Channel Mixer, as a nod to Gavins suggestion, to help differentiate the tones.

(Don't tell anybody, but this might be better in color...)

Who said that?

Also might be a good candidate for some filter fun, edge finding etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, I need more if anybody has them. The image does look good in color, but I'm determine to make it come out well in B&W. If it takes me how ever long it takes me. I need to know more about CS3 to do it, the more I get from you guys the better.

quick and dirty with no change in tone as demonstration to an approach.

bumped the contrast in curves adj layer, then painted out chair on the mask. added soft light burn layer > burned w/ soft black low opacity brush. best...skip

skip, that is nice, Thanks for the guidance. I need to get a mouse to use on my MBP, touchpad just doesn't cut it for this. Heck might as well get a Wacom.

Thanks again, I'm not too worried about the trackpad, more of handshaking. I tried some burning yesterday after your first post. I need some thing else.

Now I know this is not at all what you were thinking about, but you did kind of open the door to suggestions... I was just having a little fun with it..

Glad you liked it. I was running out of ways to try and separate the chair from the foliage with conventional methods. Creativity abhors rules..when all else fails, try something different.

and yes Derek, I AM a trippy dude!
