if all goes right, I'll have a D700 in my hot little hands. That's the plan anyway assuming that Nikon sticks to it's worst case July 25th shipping date. My dealer (whose list I'm #1 on all paid for) said so far this is still what the rep is telling them. They ordered 2nd day shipping as well, so hopefully the brown truck gets it right. My lenses are all ready to go. I'm not even one who has patience, but in this case I have NO choice. OH well....the waiting is something else.

Well, I hope you're right, but I got the impression that the July 25th date was the best case scenario, not the worst case.
B&H is not expecting to have the camera available until August, and there's still no official word from Nikon about when it will start shipping, since they are still working on the firmware.
Actually Nikon DID have that official release date of July 25...that's old news. My dealer mearly confirmed it has not changed with the rep. I just hope it holds as my patience isn't long.

Tell ya what EB....if you let me use your VISA card for a $1500 charge with no strings attached I'd be GLAD to pick up a D3 and be done with it. That's no small hurdle to get past however, so I'll stick with my original plan. Sure was tempting however....just can't muster the $$ up.
You gotta get out and actually shoot some pictures Lee. Sure cameras have their faults, but how can you even learn to love one when you are constantly lusting after the next body?
I don't mean to single you out, cause sure, the D700 sure does sound great, but man, take a deep breath, put your finger on the shutter button, cradle that lens, saddle up to the view finder, roll that wheel to M and have some fun now! Seriously, the world is passing you by.
Well, Tom, I probably would not have done it this quickly, but I'm going in for PRK surgery (eyes) here very soon. I've got a condition called "Map Dot Dystrophy" and my prescription has been changing literally weekly, so it's a real hassle. The laser is supposed to be the best option as it takes care of that layer of the cornea that is the culprit. The side benefit is I won't need glasses for distance, only reading, so that will be interesting if successful. I've worn glasses since I was 10 (now 54). There will be about a month of visual transition, so I felt if I was going to make the leap to FF now was the time. You can understand that I'm sure. I did use the D300 for a wonderful trip to Southern Utah (found at the Southern Utah gallery at www.pbase.com/traveler) so it's not like I didn't use the bodies I've had. I'm also very glad to have accumulated the right glass. I have the 14-24 and 24-70, 50mm f1.4D and 70-300vr waiting for it. I ordered a SB-900 to go along with the package, figured what the heck might as well have the latest most compatible flash technology as well. Wish me good fortune on the laser surgery. I sure hope this works because there aren't many options......
Wait wait wait wait. You figure now is the time to spend $4000 on camera equipement right before you have eye surguery? Im not sure how you came up with that one, lol. If it was me, I'd keep my gear and make sure everything after surguery works how it should. But on the other hand everyone has different incomes, so...
I am trying not to think about it. I have already committed my money, but distract myself with other things while I wait. Otherwise I would be a nervous wreck.
I know that Adorama is going to screw me and have some sort of delay. I even ordered my camera on the first day too. I just have bad Karma.
