p.1 #1 · Any tricks?

Hey I was just wondering if anyone here had some tips or tricks for using every square ounce of image resolution available from the D40?

Also, this is my 1st post on these forums, I'm new here but hopefully I'll be able to get some good ol' content up and online over the coming...however long.

Best,

~NICK~

really simple

Frame IN CAMERA and avoid cropping in post

Use really good glass when taking

Train yourself to slow down if possible and use a tripod

Spend good money Once on the set of legs and head and you have a lifetime of great images ahead

Welcome to FM! You will find many helpful people here! Resolution depends on many factors. What lens are you currently using? Also, are you shooting RAW or JPEG?

Shoot in RAW in addition to whatever Mr Macfadden has said

+1 for everything, especially framing in camera. Don't use the crop tool in PS as a crutch, you'll only weaken your photographing abilities, not to mention drastically reduce resolutions. Use good glass, doesn't matter how much resolution you have if your images are soft.

And welcome!

If you're working with static objects, stitch multiple shots together in a panorama; you can get incredible resolution that way. See for example http://www.tawbaware.com/maxlyons/gigapixel.htm.

I did one myself a while back that is 60 images (5 x 12) stitched together.

shoot in RAW and process with Capture NX.

stitching photos can give amazing details. but you better have a fast computer and time.

you might need a tripod

an 18-200vr will help, raw and capture nx2. although aperture and lightroom aren't far behind.

Thom Hogan has an excellent essay on this topic:
