p.1 #1 · Portland Head

My quick trip to Maine continues... I was a little disappointed with the skies, but figured I'd go back to the lighthouse and see what I could make of it... C&C welcome....

1. In town...

2. With the 10 stop ND...

3. Got some big wave crashes though...

4. So I decided to focus on that a bit...

I like #2 a lot, but the reddish color in the water doesn't seem natural. I wonder if it had something to do with the long exposure. In any event, it's a great shot other than that.

Hey Rick,

Cool stuff. I like your #1 shot. Very nice to get the seagull to be looking at what the camera is looking at. I might suggest a slightly tighter crop to crop out the windows completely above the sign.

#2 is really nice with the long exposure. I agree the magenta tone in the water takes away from the shot. It clashes with the portion from above the water. So I would use a layer mask and tone down the magenta. It's a cool looking shot, so it's worth some work!

#3, great wave crash, and a more natural look to the shot does work! #4 is interesting but does the least for me in this set.

I think with just a little work to #2, you will have a shot in both #2 and 3 to really be proud of! #1 might be cool to see in B&W...

Jim

Thanks for the comments. I went back and reworked #2 for color and was also able to bring out more detail in the foreground rocks. Does this work better?

Much Better on the retouch. I really like the colors in the rocks and the otherworldly look in the sky.

Personally, I'd love to see #4 in a nice high contrast b&w--I think it'd look great.

Nice series all in all.
