p.1 #1 · New Blooms

Hi guys and gals. Well the temp is getting colder and I'm wishing for spring, so I went to that little tropical isle called the greenhouse again today for some inspiration. There were two beautiful Hibiscus in bloom and that made me feel a whole lot better. I hope they make you feel as good as they did me. Come on spring!!!!!!!!

Hi Maggie. Thank you so much. I had my 85mm f1.4 Nikkor with me...forgot my macro Tomorrow I'm going back with a tripod and the macro... the DOF wasn't what I would have liked and I wanted to stay at ISO 200.

The 85 did a nice job though... probably would be fine on a tripod.

Thanks for looking Maggie.

Very nice shots, you've done well with the backgrounds which really enhances the main subjects. Reading you comment you're probably already aware, aI think the first would be a little better if the DOF went from the front of the front petal past the stamen? They're both very nice nonetheless.

Hi reko.. and thank you for the kind words. Yes, I did't have the tripod with me and at my age, I should NEVER shoot without one... just not that steady anymore I used my Tamron 180 f3.5 on a tripod for the earlier shots and I posted and they were more controlled and better DOF. If the blooms are still fresh, I'll try to reshoot them this week.

Thanks again.

I'm so glad that you like them... they are simply beautiful, aren't they. The colors just amaze me. My friend Dave propigated the grey one... he hasn't named it yet... I just love the color.

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful pictures.. What a way to spend a winter day huh!!

Say,,, I just happen to have a greenhouse close by myself.. Maybe I'll check with the clown that runs the place and see if theres anything in there worth photographing.

Way to go Buddy and glad to see you got out as the last time we talked you were shut in. These look great, a very nice finish and glad to see you used the natural light on them. Were you trying your new D3 out or are you still waiting.

Good Idea Greenthumbs... too cold for anything outdoors right now. Let me know if your greenhouse guy has a jacuzzi in his place... I think ALL greenhoused should have a jacuzzi

Hey Lou... how are ya? Yeah, finally got out of the house. Still coughing, but I was getting cabin feaver. No D3 yet...still waiting for them to arive. The longer I wait, the more I wonder if the D300 isn't all I need.

Good to hear from you Lou.
