p.1 #1 · point n shoot camera search

I'm in the process of buying a point n shoot digital camera. I have the 20d with 28-70 2.8 lens and this gear can get bulky and intimidating to some people. I want to get a more compact digital camera that is a point n shoot. Can someone help me find a good top of the line point n shoot compact digital camera by canon. Thanks,

Letty

G9? Is this a digital camera by canon? And why do you pick this one vs others?

What do you want the P&S to do?

One option is to get a small lens for your slr - maybe a 35/2 or a 28/2.8

Yes it's a Canon and although it isn't perfect (noisy at higher ISO's) it is about the best choice I could find right now. It's well built that's for sure, and not too big but there are some thinner Canons too, but the G9 seems to be at the top of the heap right now. I bought mine for underwater use, so my needs are a bit different, but it is still a nice camera, but not equal to a DSLR.

I got a G9 for when I couldn't be bothered to lug my 1D2Ns around with me. It is a great little camera, well built and more importantly supports RAW format. Image quality is good though it can be quite noisy above ISO 400 but then what compact isn't? All in all I am very pleased with it, highly recommended.

My vote goes to the Canon PowerShot A720

I gave 3 of them for xmas gifts.

I went from a recomendation, myself.

After a good friend really spoke highly of the one he bought for his wife.
After much "teaching" my Mom, Girlfriend, & her son the ins, & outs of the controls, I've got to say that i'm very impressed.
8Mpix, 6x op zoom, greenbox(fullauto) Program mode (allows full control) and the expeced AV, TV, M, and video.
The images are outstanding, good(low) noise up to 1600.

-Best "PRO" for me, with like maybe 4 adjustments, I can set DOF manually, and adjust the FLASH exp to fit my situation.
-CON- very long(seemingly)wait time between exposurse, even in multi-mode.
No Raw--

Short of it, Newegg had them with 1gig card, case, and reader for $200 ; I'm pleased, and very impressed. Wish I wulda got 1 more.

Mine is a Sony DSC F828 It has 8mp and 7x optical zoom (28-200). It can be used in Av Tv, and manual. The manual mode is very easy to use. I can use two differant sizes of cards. I purchased mine a couple of years ago. I think an updated version is out. I use mine all the time. I am sure a used one could be had for under $600. It is more of a hybrid - feels like a small dslr but works like a point and shoot.
