well hooray for a great first contribution. and welcome. if the top of the very upper white ring was there it'd be perfect. Other than that, nice exposure

All the fun of the fair. These old merry -go-rounds make for colourful motion shots.

Hi Alison,

Great shot. I was hoping someone would do a merry-go-round. Seems like a perfect subject for this WA and you have captured this one very well. Good luck this week.

Thank you for all your supportive and helpful comments! Very encouraging.

Seeing it up on the site, with fresh eyes, I feel the left side should have been cropped to match the right.

In response to mmalleck's query regarding the shutter speed, here's the shooting information for the shot.

Camera Model Canon EOS 30D
Shooting Mode Manual Exposure
Tv 1
Av 16.0
Metering Mode Evaluative Metering
ISO Speed 100
Lens EF-S17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

Cheers

Thank you for your comments, it's a very encouraging start. I think I'd better throw myself into learning how to manipulate my photographs on the computer too, it's a whole other world out there! So inspirational looking at your images and those of others on this site.

Thanks Alison...

I was riding a carousel just a few weeks ago. I hadn't done that since I was a kid. Poor horse... I took pictures and video from the horse - lots of fun.

Good luck.

Agree with Josh that it would be improved by including the complete top white ring.
But a GREAT shot, and GREAT entry!

How did you escape from the factory long enough to go and have some fun!!

As Josh said, it would have been nice if the top white line of light hadn't been clipped and I agree with you about the cropping to match the right, also maybe clone out whatever that little light in the distance is on the left.

Love the up and down motion of the horses. Great shot. Good luck.

I have a secret tunnel!

Thanks for the feedback - going to play around with this image using my limited knowledge of Photoshop, taking on board yours and the the advice of others. Also, I have a photo with the top ring in so going to play with that too.

Al.

Where's the tunnel, it may be quicker than the M1!!

Just got home and looked on my monitor here and its completely different, before every thing apart from the Carousel was black now there is a background and I can see clearly the shadows of people in the foreground, ignore my comment about cloning out.

Fred

Read the rules and I apologise. I'm new to this site and hadn't realised the photograph had to be taken within the week of the assignment. Sorry for my honest mistake.
