not necessary.

MAYBE there will be also a 3D with a reworked 16mp ff sensor from 1Ds2, with a slight better AF (15 points maybe), with 6-8 FPS or something like 6 FF frames and 8 crop mode frames per second, partial sealing, new features that came on the new generation of cameras (microadjustment, live view, wifi, etcetcetc)....

in large lines a camera ALMOST similar to D3 from Nikon, an advanced FF camera without resolution and series1 construction, W/O incorporated grip and other profi features ....

i call that an ALL ROUNG camera for those who want a single camera, decent for allmost any type of work ...
some FPS very useful for playing kids or animals. FF and resolution for landscape and studio work..partial sealing and solid built for rougher situations, not the same of 1 series though....

a "mutt" . part camel part elephant camera...

this way, with a price similar to a used 1ds2 , 3500 $, offering the new features (live view, better high ISO performance, more FPS, menu, microadjustment, etc) Canon would shake Nikon D3 market (especially those who own a Canon setup and thought to switch to nikon) and would offer an alternative to those without great needs of top performance and without enough money who would have buyed a used 1Ds2 instead.....

i think THAT would be the first really smart decision from canon after Nikon anouncemenet....

tehy would offer an allround camera.

7D would become at the 2000$ rumor price the entry level, plane simple FF camera..12 mp, simple AF, low speed camera....around 2000-2500 $

3D would be all round camera, with a little more from everything...canon takes the money from 1Ds2 profi users who want to sell....they compete somehow with nikon D3 market....they keep those who were interested in such a camera, FF, lots of fps, etc...with a cheaper camera with some advantages , for example resolution.... around 3500-4000 $

1D3 dedicated PJ camera...1.3 crop factor very well come fo long tele PJs incredible speed, 1 series AF (hopefully resolved), 1 series built , new battery, new lineup of accesories , transmitters, etc....

1Ds3huge resolution in a profi 1 series body....

really, i do not think this presumed 3D would steal buyers from 1D3 because it will not have the same built, batery capacity, energy eating by the camera, etc...

maybe it will determineSOME photographers not to buy 2 cameras instead of one (let's say 1D3 and 5-7D, one for action and one for studio or landscape) BUT after all the MARKET force them to offer such all round good for everything and best for nothing speciality camera.......

and facing the choice of loosing market and prestige or having more models in production and service maintainance(spare parts needed also for older models...) and loosing some sales they had until now by forcing people to buy a camera for each type of work they do (1D for AF and speed, !ds for resolution for example) i think they will choose to offer such 3D camera...HOPEFULLY

Cool, the 2001 EOS 7 film camera was called the Elan 7 in North America. Maybe an EOS 7D will be the Elan Digital with ECF we have all been waiting for.

I'm sure...7D will no doubt be a hybrid with a giant pop-up solar panel to charge
the batteries.

Does it still have a pop-up flash? Can't quite picture how this works.

, sorry Henry...in keeping with the "original" a pop up flash won't be offered.
Rumor has it there'll be an additional door next to the CF port for self-strike matches!

I'm hoping for a built-in mp3 player and cell phone. Wouldn't be too much trouble to include an LED flashlight...

These drumsticks are specially cut to fit in the build-in microwave of the 7D. The idea is that landscape photographers can have something to eat in the field.

Aw geez Will. Solar panel and batteries? But you could be right.
Shoot. I was hoping the new model would be nuclear.

As speculative as this is, i do seem to remember someone posting the 40D UPC code a few weeks ahead of it being announced (and it was correct).
Could be a more interesting end of '07 in Canonland than i might have thought.

My guess is that all companies need to select model numbers way ahead of time and reserve things like UPC codes for them. Perhaps long before they even have one in the works so to speak.

I'd like a 7D with pheromone emitter (to entice models), iTunes compatibility (to help pass the time waiting for good light) and Jack Daniels dispenser (to get drunk after I see my pictures).

The$2000 7D described sounds essentially like the current 5D, a used one of which is probably what I'll buy next if the also rumored 5D MkII is introduced in forseeable future. Unless, of course, that version of the 7D also offers improved AF and even better IQ.

I've been hoping for a digital body with essentially the same performance as a 1v, in a body the size of the old 1v (without booster), as long as Canon's been making digital cameras. I just don't see it happening any more. I already own a 1D MkII, but I'm not willing to carry it everywhere. It's just too big, too heavy, and calls too much attention to itself.

I don't even care if the new body is full frame, 1.3x, or1.6x, or pro build at this point. Merge the 40D sensor and image processing, the 5D body, and the 1D MkII n AF, add some more buffer, and I'll be at the front of the line.

Frankly, this should be a piece of cake for Canon, as all the components already exist and the R&D is long since paid for. But canon seems to be unwilling to make anything that will jeopardize the sale of even one 1d body. Maybe now that Nikon seems to be offering serious competition Canon will fill the gaps in their lineup.

Is there a 1Ds MK IV UPS code yet? Perhaps by then they will redesign the AF.
