Let's help Canon marketing with their next FF body
Note: by 40D body in the context of this poll I mean the latest and greatest non-weather sealed, no-integrated grip body (as opposed to weather sealed, integrated grip body – ala 1D).

Probably it will be some replacement for the 5D with an even cheesier LCD. My guess would be Q3 2008 after the 1Ds MK III has been around a while. I would be more interested in the 1Ds MK IV.

I think Canon wouldn't announce new FF body, but 5D > 5DMKII > MKIII will be cheaper cheaper and cheaper till ~1400USD

None are exactly correct, but it will be closest to a 40D body with 16 mpx for $3000. Expect a few features that aren't on the 40D just as the 5D has a few extra features over the 30D now. Nothing huge though.

If the 5D keeps the same pixel density as the Mk3, as the 5D and Mk2 had similar senisities, that would put the sensor in the range of 15-16MP. I am also guessing a body more similar to the 5D, perhaps beefed up a bit, but not to the level of a 1 series.

It should also have better bit depth, and I am hoping for even better high ISO performance than the Mk3. Of course it will have a larger screen, I like that EB, cheesier. Hopefully, a few more frames/second with a better focusing system, esp in low light. Better weather seals, that would be great.

I am guessing first Q of 08, as the 5D, while a great camera, is getting a bit long in the tooth. Original price point will be closer to $3500, but it will settle closer to 3K in six months or so.

Just a guess.... Hope it is a great little camera..

I have not seen a 40D, but I would think that it is not robust enough for FF. I mean in the viewfinder area. The VF area of my 5D is bulkier/larger than the 1.6 cameras I've seen.

I strongly suspect that when the OP says '40D body' he means that in the sense that the 5D is basically a full-frame 20D body, with some additional gimmicks. OBVIOUSLY some things were changed, like the prism housing. But the 5D body is still firmly based on the 20D design.

I don't really get the poll...

The next full frame dSLR to be announced will likely be the 5D successor. What the 1D or 40D have to do with it ... well, that escapes me. Unless form factor is involved.

Looking at what Nikon pulled out of the hat with the high ISO high fps D3, I'd say (read: do an educated guess) that the 5D Mk II will have the same 12 Mpixel resolution, with the improved fill factor of the 1D Mk III sensor for improved high ISO. It will not match the rapid fire 9 fps of the D3, but it probably will bump a bit from 3 to 4 ot 5 fps.

We'll see

Yes!!

Finally someone else who doesn't think that the SLR is the only good camera design out there.

Full frame 35 mm digital rangefinder? That will take a while. Probably a long while. It's easy to see how good the 1.33x crop Leica M8 is doing. In the sense that it's very tricky to get a full frame sensor to work properly on a rangefinder camera because the angle of incidence.

The 5D replacement will most likely be more expensive than when it was first introduced because of the present US currency devaluation. In the meantime, live your tomorrow today because the future is a question mark.

None of the above

I think they will release a 16mp 5D mkII and then a pro16mp FF "compact" with the build and features you will expect from a 1D. This would be priced between the 1D & 1Ds for the pros who want a camera big on features but low on bulk.

Nah, I think it'll be a 3D. Similar resolution to the 5D but with 14-bit and the body improvements made on the 40D. I'm still not sure I see it going to 16mpix, that's awfully close to flagship territory.

I also don't know that Canon will put 45 point AF in a non 1 series body again anytime soon, unless they had prior knowledge of the Nikon D300 AF in a pro-sumer body I'm not sure they had much pressure to. I know the original 3 had it so it wouldn't be unprecedented.

I guess:

Same 5d body size.
13-16mpix FF
3-5fps
14-bit
3" LCD
Partial weather sealing (hopefully a step up from 40D)
Native 6400 ISO
priced at $2300+

I think the whole Mk I Mk II naming convention is ridiculous and hope they don't carry it over to anything other than the 1 series. Let the 5D live in camera history and release a new damn camera. It would be another landmark camera if they brought back ECF.

I don't think the frame rate will exceed what the digic III can process at 13mpix anyone know what that would be? (ie I don't think we'll see dual proc in a non 1d)

We don't need no more stinkin' mega pixels. 12-14 would be enough. We just need super clean images and improved AF. More dynamic range would be swell.

Canon says 5D is boring from a techie POV and need to spice it up. Specs don't excite those that don't know better. I fully expect a 16.xMP replacement with a host of new features, most of which we've already seen on the 40D and 1D(s) III. I'd expect though the 5D II to have new Sony hi-res LCDs. Will it be stuck with the 40D AF, or will they expand coverage and keep invisible helper points?

The chances of a fullframed body with 45pt AF at a consumer price level so soon after the release of the 1Ds3 is slim. The most likely model will be a 5D replacement similar to the 40D with a full framed sensor and more MP.

My bet is the 6D will have the following specs:

*14mp Full framed sensor with ISO 50-3200
*Digic III
*14 bit
*Anti Dust shaker
*Same 9pt AF as the 40D
*3" LCD (Same as the 40D)
*Live view
*5 f/ps and bigger buffer
*A slightly redesigned body with "Weathersealing"
*Same grip as the 5D
*New WiFi Grip

I don't think we will see anything to exiting till at least 2009 and only the above 6D and 450D models for next year.
