p.1 #1 · Thiinking about selling my 5d??

I was wondering what the market value of these is at this point.. It has 9104 clicks on it so it has years of life left and doesnt have any scuffs or scratches on it.

$2100 or $2300 all depend on the cmarea's condition and if it's still within the one year Canon's warranty..right ?

If it's 3 month old and has 3000 clicks on it, $2300, great deal.....

and if it's 1.5 years old, has 100 clicks[who knows shutter clicks], $2100, too expensive

I happen to think you'd sell it in a hearbeat at $2100, without any remaining warranty. These cameras just aren't going for any less than that that I've seen, and most are still priced above $2200.

Pretty good prices for second hand considering you can get a refurb for $2,350 or a brand new one for $2,570 from Adorama and the like.

I'm sure plenty of people would be happy to save $250 over a refurb or $470 over new for a lightly used camera body.

This seems about right. I just bought a lightly used one off the B/S in this price range...and the UPS man is due here with it today.

I sold my almost 2 year old 5D on the B&S Forum for $2100 (paypay and UPS ground) in excellent condition. It was not selling for $2200.

I just picked one up for $1800 on a private sale, it was mint, not a scratch to be found on it. Then I sold my 10d for $400.

there are alot of refurbs on e-bay with warranty around $2200-2350 which begs the question.... who would pay near that from some random seller .. but alot of people seem to do anyways

I guess I should feel lucky I paid $2,150 new for mine after rebates. I guess for some it's holding value.

I understand completely why glass holds its value, but it stuns me how much people are willing to pay for used camera bodies.

Im thinking about a 5D and Ive been looking on the BS forum, anything under 2300ish goes in a heart beat. Thats a whole 12% below retail and you deal with all the uncertianty/warranty/potential headaches of a private sale.

So I guess to anwer the OP question, you could get a very good price for it.

I bought my 5D from the BS forum in Jan. 2006 for $2550. 1 month ago, I sold my mint condition 5D with 6K clicks on my local CraigsList for $2200 cash.

That's not bad at all! I basically paid $20 per month to own a really nice camera.

Now I got a 1D MKII for a great price. I may not lost any money when I am ready to sell again which will be for 3D or 5D MKII.

bit of a red herring but 9600 seems a lot for me ..

is that professional use?

I think I go out quite a lot and I have ony done 1200 clicks since dec05. I must be a bit of a slacker,
How many can one expect to get out of a 5d for example?

Jane,

I don't think you are a slacker. Probably a more patient, planful shooter.
I tend to get frenetic when I am out for a day shooting, trying different combinations,
lighting, etc.

I don't pay attention to clicks, but have put in about 20k clicks on my 20D over a year and half. Now to be fair, I did quit a few sporting events, air shows too!

I am currently looking for a 5D, still saving for it.
I would prefer less than 10k clicks.

Dan

To be honest Jane, I don't think that I ever heard or talked with anybody shooting as little as you 1200 clicks in 20 months. You can use it the rest of your life without changing the shutter
I shoot more than that every two weeks.....

There may be some, but it sure seems a lot more intelligent to buy the refurb with the 3 yr. Mack warranty from a shop that accepts returns. I've looked at an awful lot of Canon refurbs, and in only one instance with a 1D MKII body a couple of months ago (at which point it was years old) could I tell I was looking at a camera that wasn't brand new. If in the first two weeks of buying a refurb the buyer discovers an issue, it can be dealt with by returning and swapping out instead of having the seller post a "what should I do buyer says camera has such and such issue it didn't have when I shipped" thread. If a later problem develops the Mack warranty will cover it, unlike the private sale scenario.
