p.1 #1 · Water Fowl on Grenadier Pond

Here are a couple of images taken at Grenadier Pond in Toronto. The ice is melting and there is now some open water that the local wildlife can use. I went down after work hoping to catch the light. I was also hoping that the air would be warmer since when it combines with the cold air from the pond it creates a lot of mist but the air was cold so I had to settle for animal shots.

I'm a novice photog so any feedback would be nice.

Nice shots, High Park in general is a great place to find birds in the city. Your second photo is a Male Gadwall by the way. Great reflection in the first.

Really? I thought it was a Mallard. I'll have to relabel it then.

Nice light on all three - biggest suggestion I can make is to get yourself lower when shooting - you are shooting down on the subjects - seldom looks good from that angle.

Enjoy your spring!

Thanks for the tip. Also it there a quick way to calculate depth of field? I guess that ideally the depth of field should encompass only the subject with everything else out of focus.
