I don't have my Nikon yet - still saving - but I wanted to post a snap of this little blacktail that was hanging out in my back yard with his mother this a.m. Shot with my Canon G3.

That's a good shot. Looks like you were able to shoot fairly close. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice simple pic.
You could post this in the nature forum as well. BTW you must have a special back yard to be able to shoot that close. This would be impossible where I live.

Thanks. I was watching out the window and saw him (her?) move towards my back door. I grabbed my camera -- opened the door quietly -- and was able to stick my head out and get four shots before he spooked.

Thanks. I do live in a rural area ( N. California foothills @ 3500') with a big overgrown back yard. The deer like to bed down for the night here. I'm really looking forward to getting a D70s or perhaps the new D200. I'll be spending a lot more time on my back deck then.

Cute little fawn Bill. Looks to me that you need that D70 and a few lenses asap. My father had a spike bull elk in a wheat field behind his back yard last week. Elk on our place are a once every three years or so experience. Looking forward to your Nikon shots.

Hi Alan. I've gotten a few shots of some blacktail bucks in my backyard, but nothing I would want to post. And nothing like a bull elk.

Are you anywhere near Pendleton? I grew up in the Portland area, but I did work on a cattle and wheat ranch for about a year in 1976. It was near Condon Or. Back then I shot a lot of Kodachorme with my Minolta.

I'm really looking forward to getting the D70 and posting more shots.

The good thing is you are taking photos with what you have, and not using the I dont have the equipment to do so excuse I wish I had deer in my back yard! I have to go hunt them down at the TAMIU College Campus here I saw these this morning.

Good luck with your future camera purchase

Thanks Guillermo. Beautiful shots.

Yea, I've enjoyed the G3 but i've also been frustrated with it's limitations. I had to start somewhere, and the G3 fit my budget at the time. Along with the camera, I'm looking forward to getting the best telephoto I can afford.

Ok. Despite what I said earlier, I will post this picture from last year. It shows a better view of my back yard with four blacktail bucks in view. If I remember correctly I counted seven bucks on this particular morning. Again, this was taken out the back door with my G3. I paid for a months worth of picture uploads, so what the heck, here's another one.

Thanks for the kind words Memo. Maybe I'll try to snap something similar with the local skunk family --- or not.

Just remember Bill that they are a fairly small animal so you'll want to get real close to get all the details.

Come to think of it, how come you never see any good skunk photos?
