p.1 #1 · Using Visico VE 200w with Elinchrong RX?

Hi

Im using Elinchrom Speed AS RX with 2 flash, Action and stard, so Im kinda need more lighting for effects like hairlight, background light, fill or whatever.

The elinchrom flash is pretty powerful, what I wonder if I will having trouble with just 200w from Visico? Will the RX flashes too powerful? Visico VE-200 is 1/800s-1/1200s and Elinchrom is 1/5120s with 1/A flash, 2 flashes its arround 1/2xxx..

Will this effects my picture or It will just do fine for those stuff Im going to use?

Its pretty cheap package 378EUR, Im trying to keep low budget, so another RX package is not an option right now.

Flash duration is not generally a concern for BG light, but can be for a hair or accent light depending on the situation, eg wind, action, ratio etc. However there are other issues with regard to adding secondary light sources with a location pack, some of which can be rather unexpected depending on your particular application.

As to whether a 200W light is powerful enough, that would depend entirely on your set up and expectations. Personally I would find myself limited to a great degree, but it can be done as I do use speedlights when necessary too. Here's one thing to keep in mind however: very often hairlights (accent) and BG lights require as much or more power than your key light, especially when you gel. And remember, you may not have the option to use the Visico as your key if short duration is required.

Good luck

When using both ports of the RX you get 750Ws and 350Ws. 200Ws for hair light etc. is likely sufficient, no doubt.
The different flash durations have no influence in common portrait or people shooting as they are still fast enough. They will only play a role when you shoot 'action' where the fastest flash determines the capability of motion 'freeze'.

How about the temp of the RX? Visico has 5600k, If it will be too much differents in temp I will probably notice it pretty much huh?

But does it matter if its diff from key and back/hair light if they have different temp? Will it be noticeable?

How about if I move up, 1 step to 300ws, with 3 flashes instead for 2x200ws? Also would 3x300ws be generally be better than 2x600ws? Perhaps like

2RX in front/left/right
2x300 for rimlight, hair light etc,
1x300 for background

would that sounds good?

I do have enough budget to get 2x600ws but its 1/4 price of RX... it sounds so expensive for this kind of stuff or for this brand... It does have overheat warning thing but im not sure how much I can abuse it like I can with my RX.

Nevermind, I decided to order 2x300 package. I've heard that they are pretty good stuff and quality for price.

Up to the test at the end of this week, I hope that I don't get disapointed. Model is booked, hope everything will gone smooth or it will just be fail photoshoot... not a good reputation
