p.1 #1 · Competition help please

Hi everyone

I am looking to enter a competition where the theme is speed / movement. I've picked out these four - what do you think? These are all saved in ProPhoto colour space so might look strange on some monitors but the competition is running in a print magazine so I thought it was the best option. All originals are 5000+ pixels wide.

Thanks for looking.

Pierre.

First two.

#2. Closer crop, the riders body position and angle brings more "tension" into the picture, the board and the sail are sharper than the others, and the color is the best......IMHO.

I just love #1.
I think #2 is too close to see the movement and #4 too far away.

Color is far better (at least on this monitor) in #1 & 2, but horizon has a magenta cast?

Might try to recover some highlight detail in his shirt..

my 2¢

Thanks for your input Chas.

I also prefer the tighter crop of 1 & 2 although I think I prefer #1. Having said that, #2 has already been used for a magazine front cover so perhaps it's not so bad.

I'm not too concerned with the colour as shown here. As they are not in sRGB colour space, they look very strange and do not really resemble the printed copies.

Pierre.

Thanks Filipe. I'm with you on #1.

Whilst I agree that the colour is is not too good on these, the 'magenta cast' on the horizon is just the deeper water further out to sea. In shore, the seabed is sandy but there is a drop off a few hundred metres offshore.

I'll try and pull a bit more out of that shirt - thanks.

Yeah, more detail in the shirt. I prefer one over two, but both are dynamic compositions.

I think the second one was more blown out.

I'm going to send in the first one but I'm still undecided about the colour space. It makes such a huge difference to how it looks on the screen. I'm guessing that they will look through all the submissions in Lr, Aperture or something similar so sRGB might be the best option.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Pierre.
