p.1 #1 · 30D to 40D is more of an upgrade than I thought!!!
I've perused the topics here for nearly 6 months now, and read many people's recommendations for the 40D to a multitude of people. Through them I never felt the "need" to upgrade from the 30D. I encountered a phenomonal deal ($600.00) on a 40D+28-135 Kit & 8gb Sandisk III, and for a while had been thinking how nice "Live View" would be for Macro shooting.
I picked up the 40D and have to say, I'm impressed, and not that I don't love the 30D, but wow. Thanks to everyone of you who has praised this camera and recommended it to others, and I've definately gleaned much of my information(both pro's and con's) from all of you...I'm probably going to get out this weekend, and put it through some paces...THANKS ALL...

I thought the 40D was a huge jump over the 30D and 20D - the speed of operation and quickness of the AF and feel were so much more refined.
I am trying to NOT touch a 7D. Quite happy with my 5D and 1DsMKII. Slow and steady wins the race.
I think a 1Ds and a 7D would be an excellent combo. Just sayin

I've been shooting my 20D and 30D duo for everything for the past couple of years, but like you, when the last of the 40D's were being flogged off at a local store, I scooped up a nice deal on the 40D - not really feeling a lot of love for the 50D.
And like you - I'm impressed. My 20D is retired and in the hands of a friend that is learning digital. My 30D is now my backup/second when needed. And the 40D is just a workhorse and travels with me everywhere.
