p.1 #1 · EOS Conversion for Rokkor 500mm Mirror Lens

Well I've done the Rokkor 58MM 1.2 conversion using one of Jim Buchanan's great EOS conversion kits and I'm hooked. Now the problem is that I have to keep walking by my Rokkor 500MM that's just sitting on the shelf.

I've seen several references to there being a very easy conversion for this lens due to its built in design to focus beyond infinity, but I can't find any specifics about how to do it.

Can anyone provide instructions on how to do it or point me to a link if its already been covered (didn't find any when I searched)

Thanks.

Remove the old mount and then use JB Weld or crazy glue to stick an EOS-m42 adapter on.

It is that dead simple.

Removing the mount is the only challenge. There are two ways to do this;

1) The right way - The mount is held on by screws that go from the inside, back of the barrel into the back of the mount. To get at them, you have to carefully disassemble the lens until you get down to the empty barrel. Simply remove the screws and the mount will fall off. I did it this way. It was easy.

2) The fast/easy way - Remove the UV (or other) filter from the rear of the lens if there is one installed. Mask off the area by stuffing tissue and using tape. Grind, file, Dremel or otherwise hack off the mount. Clean up the mess.

Cosmo,
I converted mine a while ago, thanks to a tip by Paul (Cogitech). Here's what I have from memory. Hope it's sufficient for you to start.

debuggerus mentions tuning infinity in that thread. I just wanted to mention that I did not need to do that. After gluing the M42-EOS adapter on, I could still focus past infinity on my 5D, as the lens is designed to do.

I should mention that he is right, though. You remove 3 screws near the back of the barrel and then the back of the barrel comes off. Then you can get at the internal mount screws. It has been so long that I forgot that part

Thank you all for the quick responses. My tool kit consists entirely of duct tape and JB Weld so its looks like I'm all set.

What other tools does one need? Maybe a heavy hammer...
