I am needing to make a high quality slide CRISP slide show for a upcoming bridal fair. In the past I have used "PIX 2 EXE" and have gotten pretty good results. My only problem with it is that the images don't seem to be as crisp and sharp when I play it on the dvd player or even run it through my laptop to the tv as well. I am using a flat screen high def 42", any other picture quality is great. I am wondering if you know of any programs that are a better image quality for doing this or if burning the disc as a blue ray dvd will increase the image sharpness. Any help would be appreciated!
I use Pro Show Gold. You can save off your slide shows in quite a few different formats. I personally like saving them off as self-installing .exe files because you can save the slideshow in a HD resolution and it will run on any computer. if you want a sample HD slide show i made of a wedding using proshow, just let me know and I'll send you a link to download and you can see for yourself how it will look.
I have displayed my slide shows on Computer screens, 32" lcd tv, 50in plasma and a lcd projector.

Some of the differences are Proshow gold makes the slide show play the same way every time. Windows makes the show several different ways but you are limited to and must follow the policies of windows such as sorted by date, time, alphabetized etc.
The Faststone slide show feature is similar to windows with the addition of a random order slideshow with as many as 156 different transitions and the ability to watermark and add text to the slide....I use this feature to put my web site on and to display the file numbers on my event photos.

Well of course if you're making DVD's the quality isn't as good because a DVD player only outputs 480p max resolution. Like I said, using .exe or "screen saver" as your output you can set the resolution to whatever you want and the images will be as sharp as they are coming out of the camera. Obviously to get highest resolution, you play a screen saver or .exe on a computer, not a DVD player.
I did a few slideshows recently with fotomagico. It gives you the option of display output wether it be crt, lcd, etc. I just checked and it goes to 1080 supposdedly. If you aren't familiar with it, it gives you some good flexibility and options on the text.
I did a slide show in proshow gold as a .exe file on dvd media back in November...I was not impressed, but I probably made the show too long. I did not give up and thought I could probably get it better with a little more experience with the program.... So using proshow gold again I made a show for a banquet this past week on DVD...it was about 900 pictures long @ 1h and 37min. and the quality was decent when played on my PS3 (playstation 3) and my standard 480p DVD player hooked up to a 50in Panasonic plasma TV...I then re-rendered the same show as HD 720p and played it through my laptop on my LCD projector. I thought the quality was very good. The pictures were much sharper then the .exe show I did in Nov. but now the show was 21gb in size so I had to play it off the hard drive. With that in mind at 1080 it should have GREAT quality...but you won't find any optical disk to hold that big of a show at that quality. I love the proshow gold and the flexibility it has....if you have the time and the media to to handle the HD shows take it is certainly the way to go....but if you are only doing a show or 2 and time is tight,then other options as mentioned in this thread would be better.
I used Pro Show Gold. I output the show to DVD. The slideshow is pretty sharp. I preffer Pro Show Gold over the one offered by Ulead DVD Picture show. This last one reduce image quality.
