I heard a 1.4x tele will not work for this, but I read something about making mods to one to make it work. Just wondering if anyone has some info that. And some sample photos with a 1.4 attached

Assuming you're talking about the Canon mount...

It won't do AF with a 'reporting' TC even on a 1 series even though you'd have thought that it should. It will do AF if you tape the pins or use a 'non-reporting' TC but there's lots of hunting unless the light is really good.

I shoot with a nikon d2h, I heard using a nikon one and shaving a something off?

You are referring to the fact that the current range of Nikon teleconverters have a tab that prevents them mounting to non-AFS lenses. I've also read about carrying out surgery to remove the tab; Thom Hogan has something on this operation here:

I think you'd be better off buying the very good Kenko Pro 300 1.4x than taking cutting tools to a perfectly good Nikon converter.

At native 500mm on a 1dmarkII. On a monopod.
