This might be one of those famous questions "what printer should I buy" but I'm actaully quite undecided what should I get. For almost 3 years I was printing on Epson 1280 and generaly speaking I was happy with it. I don't print large format (maximum 14 X 11) but I do print a quite few photos during my work week. I'm not a Epson fanatic so other brands could be considered. On the flip side of the coin, I wish to stay in $300 to $500 price range therefore I can't brake the bank. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated ....
If you're happy with the 1280 an R1900 should make you more than happy. I had one years back and print quality (and particularly color matching) has improved dramatically since then. I own an R1800 and a Pro 4000, the 1900 has dual USB ports which I'd like to get, but not worth selling the 1800 for.
I dunno specs but I'm reading tutorials that say the inks and controls for the higher end Epsons (> $1,000) are better for various reasons - transfers, and etc. I think for the $500 and under crowd that there's so little difference between Epson, HP, and Canon it just doesn't matter at all and you may as well consider "feature gadgets". Cost per print, speed, has fax, scans slides, can scan multiple prints or slides and create individual files, has networking, has wireless - bluetooth etc., can print from camera or cell-phone direct, document feeder option, uses 7 inks or more, can print direct to CDs, etc. etc.. Last I looked in such a case the Canon was a little better.
