Wow very cool!!! They look like their american variety except for they have longer beaks and to me a slightly different head! Thanks for sharing this shot its cool to see how evolution tweaks things.
This is a nordic european example. Apparently, in the rest of Europe you can find them with red chest. I have been watching this bird for a long time and even presenced the arrival of his family this summer. Unfortunately, only him stayed behind for winter, the rest seems to have migrated.

Nice shot with good focus on the eye, pleasing color, would be nice to see the legs in this shot but a very nice shot anyhow. A very pretty gray/blue coloring and the distictive black stripe marking. Thanks for sharing with us

Thank you all for your comments. I have now given myself the challenge of getting a photo of this bird in flight. God help me, once I live in Norway and winter is just around the corner. I am shooting with a D300 and a Sigma 100-300mm F4. Any good advices?
