this is amazing!!
could you tell me how did you get the "x" shape light trails??
also, mind sharing any details of the shot?? like the aperture setting, etc
Thanks for the comments and critiques. I appreciate it.
Himcheong, I used a starlight filter on a Cokin P holder to get that effect. I find professionals rarely use them, but hey, I ain't a professional. I like the effect.
Aperture set at F5.6, Sigma 10-20mm lens on D300, ISO 200. Mounted on Feisol tripod and Markin Q3 ballhead.
You can achieve a similar effect on most lenses by shooting towards bright lights at a small aperture...f/14 or so should do it...but the effect isn't as pronounced and requires VERY long exposures.
I'd have cropped it a bit tighter, especially on the left, but I love the colors in the shot...especially the reflections on the water.
I generally find star filters to be a distracting and annoying, but it actually works fairly well here. I'd certainly like to see what a non-starry shot looks like, though.
I like this image..it is soft and has dreamy feel to it..I would however crop the left side. Beautiful image and the star filter is used well...well done!!
I do like this! But I agree with almost everyone and say it would definitely benefit from a tighter crop. It would put more emphasis on the buildings themselves. Nice work though.
Personally, I'd finish the crop with a little on the right - I find the yellow "fog light" vision way to distracting from an otherwise notable shot. I feel like either a train is coming or a jet is landing right at me - sends my eyes right to that instead of the nicer parts of the shot!
I'd crop the bottom part too where it's almost pure black.
When shooting landscape like this, try not to divide the sky and the water/land in half like that, give the sky or the water more room depending on what you want to focus on.
I don't know, I'm a little torn on this photo. It does create some emotion in me and it reminds me of something and it keeps my attention...that is good. However, it reminds me of Christmas lights or the Christmas season. It seems that I see the starlite filter being used a lot with Christmas lights and well it just reminds me of those lights. Now Christmas season is a time that I am very comfortable with so this emotion is good to me. I am guessing, though, that was not the effect you were hoping for.
I agree that it does need to be cropped differently. I would probably take away some of the sky and just a slight amount off the bottom. You would end up with a panaramic crop.
Please understand I like the shot and am not being critical just giving you my impression of the photo.
