p.1 #1 · Loving the D300

Well I've had it only a day so far, and admittedly the light has been better than normal around here, but I've fallen in love with the pictures that this camera takes. It's like night and day compared to the D2H. The D-Lighting on low and vivid picture mode make landscapes wonderful - also pretty hard to blow the highlights big time. I can't wait to spend more time shooting with it!

Here are a few samples:

ISO3200 just to test it out - WOW I couldn't imagine pictures this clean on the d2H, very impressive indeed!

I remember the feeling of comparing my first D300 shots to my old D2H and thinking much the same way as you apparently do. There was never any buyer's remorse with the D300 like there sometimes can be with camera gear - particularly bodies.

I bought the 300 as a second body to go with my 200. After working up the shots from the first wedding I shot with both, I was ready to sell the 200 and get a second 300!

Know anyone looking for a 1-year-old D200?

Unfortunately, I loathe the entire NX package, from Transfer to Capture. Call me a curmudgeon, but I found Capture and View to be simple and intuitive to use--not to mention that they worked just fine. And now I've got to lay out another $100 just to be able to shoot tethered? Grrrrrrrrrrr....

Thank you, it's quite a photogenic lake, I have hundreds of shots from there now, and dozens very similar to this one!

Only downside so far is that it doesn't feel as secure in my hand as the D2H as the finger grip isn't as deep and recessed, so I'm carrying it around with the strap on one shoulder instead of just gripped in my hand. I'll forgive it that because I can put it in my small bag with the 150 macro and 70-200 lens - something I wasn't able to do before!.

Going to Brighton at the weekend, can't wait to put it through it's paces!

I would love to get side by side comparison between the D300 and D90 to evaluate how much "weaker" the D90 is in true usage.
I know the AF and FPS will be slower on the D90, but ISO-wise, how is it really?
