I have this picture that i took and i really like it because it has such a relaxed feel to it, but i would like to know if it's just me because i was there when i took it or not.
Nice overall but I think it would be better if you either used a wider angle or stepped back so the chairs aren't the main focus when you look at the photo.
Hi Megan,
I agree with Dominik and Kotasd; a better angle was to be found. Colors are nice.
One way I might have approached this is higher up and wider angle. Another way, if you had the lens and the room, would be to remove any other objects, keep the two chairs in the center, step back with a wide angle lens, and showcase the chairs overlooking the field better, with some space before the chairs.

It is nice but would be nicer for me without the chair on the right intruding and the lights and with the full leg of the chair in foreground. It looks like it needs some white balance work - the brightness conveys hot as opposed to relaxing to me (drag the middle of the curve down).
You have to work with what you have, when you're there. However, if you had a chance to shoot it in early evening with those christmas lights turned on, the lighting would be much more interesting and more relaxing looking.
Megan, doesn't it depend on the purpose of the image? The people who post here make suggestion for how you can make images you may like better. But, if you like it, isn't that's what counts - unless you want to sell it or to enter a competition? I've many images I like but would never enter in a competition. I can tick a long list of ways they could be better, but I enjoy them.
Agree with you AuntiPode. Ultimately, photos are for your audience. They say you should know your subject, but you should also know your audience. For me a large percentage of my shots are for my family, and of my family. I know my subject, and know the audience pretty well... I am my own toughest critic there.
At any rate, take the critique and comments as suggestions. Try em out see if you like them. Take a new perspective on your subject and your audience. I try to give positives with every critique it is important to know what were doing right as much as where we could try different things. I know personally, a lot of the comments I take with a grain of salt, it's just not my style, others I try to add to my future shots.

I agree with the bottom line, stated well by AuntiPode.
Take all suggestions, especially around aesthetics and purpose, with a grain of salt.
thanks alot for your critique everyone. i will defenitely try your suggestions. i don't think i will be going back to this particular place again so trying to take it again from further back isn't an option. but i defenitely appreciate you taking the time to look and to comment!
