p.1 #1 · Where to buy a quick release mounting shoe
Hi everyone,
I have a Sony VCT-R630Rm tripod, but found that I do not have a quick release mounting shoe. The tripod is not very useful without the shoe. According to Sony Parts website, this VCT-R630RM model is discontinued by Sony.
Thus, I am wondering if it is necessary to find a specific quick shoe for this particular model...or can I look into getting a quick shoe part from more recent Sony tripod model, say VCT-R640 and use it? How about a universal quick shoe? I would use a Sony Handicam video camera on this tripod.
I am a student, and a newbie photographer who dug this tripod out of the closet.

I get the feeling I know why it was in the closet. You can try the quick release plate for the later tripod, but be advised it's a crapshoot as to whether it will fit or not. Before purchasing, ask about their return policy as you may need it.
Search "tripod 858" on ebay. Amvona/Dynatran sell a great inexpensive ($135 or so) tripod that is sturdy and stable. It's heavy, but you simply cannot find "strong, light, and inexpensive" in one place.
