p.1 #1 · Looking for a "no shutter lag" point & shoot camera
I'm looking for a point and shoot camera with almost no shutter lag, if that possible!..
I've missed too many shots while waiting for my point and shoot to 'digest"...

Grumpy,
I reluctantly bought a Panasonic LZ7 for my wife a few months ago. She refuses to travel with any of the three DSLRs in my bag. Shutter lag was my main concern, having owned a Canon G5 P&S a few years back. That one had about a 2 second lag.
First I went into a store (Best Buy) and tried several. I was surprsed that most newer models had significantly improved on the shutter lag problem. Back to the internet to "research" reviews, which pointed me at the Panasonic LZ7 in her price range. About $200 when I bought it. Probably less now, or replaced already by a newer model.
The shutter is close to none. Pics are great at low ISO, and the high ISO clean up nicely with a little noise reduction. Of course it still takes a bunch of crappy pics because it fires in any condition by lowering the shutter speed to way below hand held limits.
She has no trouble with the controls, but they drive me crazy cause I'm used to high-end DSLRs. Takes me forever to remember how to change settings when I use it, which is very infrequently.

There's a web site (I don't remember the URL) that listed digital P&S cameras' shutter lag times, and it let you sort the list into any of several different sequences. When sorted in shutter lag sequence, shortest first, several Sony models came out on top. One was the DSC H7, which has been replaced by a later model; I don't remember the others, but the top three or four were all Sony. I don't think any of them (although I'm certain only about the H7) would save a raw file - only JPG.

Amen.
Whenever my sister gets our her old Sony Cybershot and asks me how to do something I'm confused lol, my 40D I can use, but that thing is impossible, how do you get the viewfinder on? There appears to be no button and you gotta go into a menu, then a submenu, then another submenu to change the ISO speed.
Personally every point and shoot I've owned or tried has extreme shutter lag, so I dunno how to help you on this.
