The delightful and long suffering Leah helped me practice today when I saw the fun sky.
What I want is:
Suggestions for improvement, these were at ISO 100 7.0 17-40 using Alien Bees What other focal lengths work? Lights were on either side of her.
Photoshop ideas. This is SOOC. Please show me what can be done to make these as dramatic as possible.
Thanks in advance.
you can do a little bit of sepia into it..i really like how the sky looks in your shots..a wider shot would have worked on these. Looks like you have some awesome landscape as a background and you could have taken advantage of it, if you didn't.
On the first shot, you could have shot from the front...focused on her face, on the right 3rd of the frame and bokeh the rest of her viel at the background, along with some hills and alot of clouds...
Well, generally most think that "dramatic" lighting means a higher ratio between ambient/strobe or foreground/background... So in this case you could just take the ambient exposure down another stop. Another way to add drama would be to increase the ratio between the two strobes (turn one up and the other one down), or simply do a sidelighting thing just using one strobe... In fact I never use more than one strobe to light a single subject outdoors, and always have it well of to one side or the other of the camera. Hope this helps,
i agree with chris on the idea of lighting ratio creating interest. both the ratio of ambient to strobe and key to fill can create incredible dramatic effect in the most mundane locations.
fortunately for you, you've got some terrific sky to play with! (and a willing model - yay!)
i went in the opposite direction of conrad and played up the blues (just a lil hue/sat layer followed by a curves layer and some masking)
Chris the lighting knowledge is much appreciated.
Ksma, your version rocks. I love it. Besides the great treatment on the sky, I love the way her eyes pop.
All the responses were what I was hoping for. Thanks, guys.
