p.1 #1 · First post of a bride

Hi everyone,

I hope I am not double posting, but I am having some difficulty sending the post.

This was my daughter's wedding on June 19th in Scotland. (they live in Cincinnati)

I used a Nikon D-50 and a Nikon 18-200 vr zoom lens. (My left hand trembles).

I know I cut off the top of her head and I cut off the bottom of her pearl necklace

I am a rank amateur and I was glad I was not the photographer for the event!

Please give me your opinions!

Thanks,

Lee

if you wanted to shoot tight like this, you could always shoot vertically-it also looks a little dark for my tastes, maybe open it up in post a half stop or so?

very pretty daughter, i'm sure there are a lot of great pics from it-congratulations

A couple of things stand out... I imagine you were in the car so that definitely limits your options, but here ya go.

Her face is underexposed a bit and slightly ruddy in color. A fill flash would of helped this OR, get in tighter and don't include the window as, when shooting in program mode, it's going to average the entire scene and try to balance the window exposure with the inside of the car.

I'm seeing some distortion which isn't unusual for that lens when too close to either limit of the focal range. It's be better to back up a bit and shoot zoomed in further to get a more natural appearance.

The composition isn't bad. The top of the head doesn't bother me but the missing pearls do.

All in all it's not a bad shot but there are a few ways to improve it next time (not saying next time she gets married, but next time you're in a car).

Thanks Daniel and Brian!

I will work on the exposure and the ruddy color. Somehow, I forgot my sb600 flash and left it home I was so upset about that.

I was outside of the car and zoomed in on her as she was about to exit the car. I really wish I had gradually zoomed in on her and I would not have cut off the head or the pearls! God willing, I will learn!

Thanks,
Lee
