I’m just curious as to what MK III have this set to and why. I have been going back and fourth between IV - 1- 0 (AF at shutter button and rear AF ON button and IV -1- 3 AF at AF ON button; exposure locked with first shot.
I like having focus controlled by the AF-ON/* button as opposed to the shutter half pressed. You have full time AI Servo by holding down the button or if you need it you can change to 1-Shot by just letting go of the button.
Also by having it set to 3, you are in control of metering instead of 2 where metering is taken when the picture is taken.
I have mine set the same way. AF-On button focuses, shutter takes the picture. Took some getting used to (way back when I was shooting an EOS 1N and had the * button doing it) but it was well worth the small learning curve.
The same, 3. Have always used the * button to focus on previous 1D series bodies so this works the same. The only thing I miss is being able to focus with the * button and press the WB button to focus with my registered point.
I have just become a "convert" to using the AF ON button for focus and the shutter button for taking the shot; after the initial awkwardness I have to admit that it is much better for taking birds in flight shots in AI Servo.
I have C. Fn IV - 1 set to "2" - can someone explain VERY simply the difference between settings "2" and "3" please. I find the manual and other documentation a little vague on this.
