p.1 #1 · cardboard flash tube

I am not having much luck recently,I have just got my mpe back from Canon after waiting for 3 weeks and now my 430ex flash has bust and is also on it way back to Canon.Im hoping they will repair it under warranty as it broke exactly a year to the day when I bought it.Not wanting to wait 3 weeks without taking photos I have made a ridiculous tube out of birthday cards just to play around with, here are some shots with it ,the first being a shot of the contraption itself.

Obviously image quality suffers because of the poor light and more PP is needed, just goes to demonstrate if the light is a bit dodgy everything gets harder and its serves me right for cobbling something together in a bad mood.As it stands I can get away with about 2x max before I struggle

Line the inside with aluminum foil and put some thin milk jug plastic over the end...

Could do the same thing (aluminum and milk jug plastic) to a paper towel cardboard tube. Cut the end of the that's toward the subject at a 45 degree angle...

Sorry to hear about your gear trouble

You could have used a milk carton instead of cards. But then, Isee what you call lousy and realize I may never get macro done right.

Thank you for all your comments.Brian, the flash stopped firing the other day for no apparent reason in the middle of a sequence of shots, the LEDS work, all the controls work ie mode, zoom etc but the flash wont power up,Im told its likely to be a problem with the capacitor

Thanks for the comment, these drone flies are always flying in the house thro the open doors, once they are out of the sun and cooled down they will readily climb on anything, good subjects for practicing on
