Windsurfing Photography

I know there's been some windsurfing photography on this forum before, but I'd love it if people would check out my blog and let me know what they think of my images.
www.scottswindsurfing.blogspot.com

I recently graduated from the photography program at Algonquin College and now am working my way into the industry. I've been down in Cape Hatteras, North Carolina for the past week and will be here for a few more days. I quite enjoy windsurfing myself and so I try to fit in some photo shoots before or after a session on the water, or when the lighting is good. After this trip I'll be heading out to the East Coast of Canada to explore windsurfing spots out there, then I'll be heading to the Canary Islands for the PWA competition in Lanzarote. My blog will serve as a record of my travels, my thoughts and my photography along the way.

Some feedback would be really appreciated!

Thanks

Scott

Looks good, interesting read.

One thing I did notice is that _SAM1088 need it's colour balance altering, it's got a blue tint on it, using Auto Color in Photoshop fixes that!

Carl.

I haven't actually got a housing yet. That was just one of the ones that Brian at Side-off video had made for someone else. I don't think he really advertises his custom housings, mostly word of mouth. But I think one like that runs about $1200.

Hey Scott

You have some good looking images there. You should enjoy Lanzarote - I used to spend a month with the tour every year starting in Tarifa then on to Gran Canaria and finishing up in Fuerteventura. Are you competing on the PWA tour or there as a photog? Either way, I'll be checking your blog to bring back some memories.

Also, did you know that former world windsurfing champ Kevin Pritchard is an FM member. I haven't seen any posts from him for a while but he's lurking around here somewhere. He was experimenting with a boom / mast mounted cam at Ho'okipa last year and posted some shots. They were pretty good as I remember.

Good luck in the Canaries & enjoy the Spanish hospitality.

Pierre.

Thanks Pierre. I'll be in Lanzarote as a photographer, but also doing some windsurfing. It's funny you mention Kevin, I was just talking with him via email, and I do remember seeing those mast/boom mount photos he posted.

I'm looking forward to the Canaries, good windsurfing, and apparently good Spanish hospitality.

I guess the event will be Freestyle and Super-X at Costa Teguise again this year. As I remember it there are large hotels on both sides of the bay that means there is a wind shadow close to shore. There is however, a jetty that gets you a hundred yards or so closer to the action but only if the course is set close to it. You are likely to need some long glass (400mm minimum) or that waterproof housing.

As a freelance photographer, you won't get access to the press centre or any official functions (i.e. parties) unless you get credentials. Make sure you have something from a newspaper or magazine or you'll miss out.

If you are there for long enough, you should take the ferry over to Corralejo (in Fuerte) and check out Flag Beach and Glass Beach. Both are within 15 - 20 minutes drive of the ferry port and on their day, they both offer excellent wave conditions.

Have a good time.

Pierre.

I'll keep that stuff in mind. I actually will be set up with a press pass for the event so I should have full access to the press center and "official functions".

Can't wait!
