p.1 #1 · 1st Baseball Poster (C&C)

This is my first picture post, and my first attempt at a poster. I did this for my nephew and had it printed out at 16x20. It loses a bit of detail for the web, but it's pretty accurate.

I was originally looking at some of the templates from Artistic Actions but since I was just doing this for him as a gift, I really couldn't justify the price. I just worked my way through Photoshop until I got something that I liked.

I know it's got some flaws and there is always room for imrpovement.

Very nice poster! That's an impressive first attempt! You certainly don't need to purchase any templates if you can build them this well. Nicely done. I know he will love it. Nephews are great

I think that the bold colors are great. Nice that you could use them to match. Also think that the font, & glow effect adds alot. It works.

Jooks wonderful overall, I am bothered by the baseball stitching going right across/thru the guys face positioned just below the 2008. Not really sure what might be done about that; Reposition, or lighten the layer a bit? ect. . .

I'm looking for the film strip framing that you've used, for something similar. Care to assist with any details, or ways/places that you used to add that?

Very impactfull poster, I'm Sure that it IS going to be a big hit.

Thanks, Bob

Looks good. I like the layout. I agree the ball stitching through his face draws my attention.

Very nice indeed. I'm sure he'll be very happy with it and a nice way to remember this part of his life.

I can't wait to see what you will do with more experience and practice.

I would also be interested in what you did for the film strip.

Excellent first attempt, Bravo. My only suggestion would be to move the ball to your bottom layer so the faces are above it.

Thank you for the comments. The more I look at it on the web the more I see the stitching problem that everyone has pointed out. I didn't notice it quite as much at poster size. I'll have to watch that in the future. I probably could have shifted the background a bit and avoided the problem altogether.

A couple people have asked about the filmstrip I used. I posted about it here:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/641226/0#5691911

I think there is a better one used in this thread here:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/644085

If I do another one I'd probably download the second one and use that instead. It just seems sharper. I had to make some modifications to the one I used to make it work. Then I just added a bit of drop shadow to it.

I'll keep trying. Thanks for the comments.

sivrajbm,

The ball was on the bottom layer. I think I just had the transparency or fill wrong and it appears like it isn't the bottom layer. I'll have to play around with it to get it right. Thanks!

Please, Keep us all posted on any of the improvements.

Reading everyones posts, the consensus is that it looks like a fine work, espically considering its your first.
Can't wait to see what you achieve in the future--Gotta LOVE this Place.

I can only hope I can get close to the finished product that you got there.

similar to the stitching going through the background face on the left, the uneven lighting on the background face on the right is distracting to me...I assume its from lightening up the middle pic...maybe make that area smaller so the face on the right stays one shade. Also, cropping the filmstrip pic on the left to eliminate the "yawner" kid in the dougout? I do like the overall layout...nice job.
