p.1 #1 · The Lucky Red Tails

For 58 years I have been chasing all kinds of animals and birds around wherever I was but I have to say with no doubt this is one of the finest pair of red tail hawks I have ever laid my eyes on. My camera and my ability do not do them justice as I have been very close to what I believe to be the female as to the size of the bird. I call them lucky because they seem to have a nest area very close to a State Trout Hatchery and I would think on most days the guys throw out a gift we would all pay dearly for as a dinner at a fine restaurant. === ENJOY (10)

Beautiful Lou,

was trying to get close to one yesterday when the local birds decided it was time to chase it off.

I was not happy.

My top picks would be # 1, 2 & 3.

Thanks Karl and boy am I ever having a good time at the Hatchery as the guys that work there love this pair of hawks but yesterday I had to remind them about getting an easy meal as they could forget how to hunt or loose the patience to watch an open field. I told them rmember the young will be on their own and need to be able to hunt. GRUNTS came from the crowd

A good time !!!! WOW Tim I am having a great time with this pair. I wish all could see that female up close as she was no more than 15 feet from me the other day and I took two photos of her and had to zoom in to get some enviorment in the photo. Thanks for the look and I am hoping to see some youngsters there later on.

Thanks Nello, yeah a great looking bird for sure and she has it under the hood also
(V8) so don't mess with her I bet she would be one to rake your head if you got to close to her nest. The other day she attacked an osprey that took a fish from an uncovered tank (the red tail won't dive in for a fish, its a meat eater) so the osprey did it for her but not for long she took to areial combat and the osprey had to drop the fish to defend its self and ths red tail got it. Some of the sights are so good there not worth trying to take a photo of as you may miss something.

Thanks Lil for the look. I would give up on trying to get close to a red tail unles it is watching some food in the grass below and than they will stay most of the time. Don't knock the crows to bad as they give us lots of warnings for upcoming action and they also keep the roads clean

Careful there Doug as it is illeagle to feed raptors as they consider it baiting but I'm not telling the State of Mass how to take care of their fish Besides you may find the cost of a fresh brown ot rainbow better than a gallon of gas. Funny thing is the hawk will not take the fish from the water but once it is thrown on the ground== GOODBY FISH. The osprey come in there also for a freebe and if that big female is in a roost watching she will let the osprey take a fish and than the fun really starts as she goes into her P38 formation with all guns blasting and the osprey has no choice but to drop the fish to defend itself. What a life and thanks for looking in.

Thanks Jude and today I think I have the male here. As I was leaving the pair was soaring high overhead riding the thermals on full tummys of fresh trout.
