p.1 #1 · D300 crashes Windows Explorer

I just got my D300 last week and after playing around with it, I attempted to copy some images from the camera to the computer. Every time I do it, Windows Explorer crashes and restarts (yes, I'm on Vista). I can import the photos from the camera into Lightroom okay, but that takes forever. I ordered a CF card reader, but it won't be here for another week and there has to be a reason the D300 keeps crashing Explorer. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm shooting 12 bit compressed raw files, if that helps.

p.1 #2 · D300 crashes Windows Explorer

I brought a test picture home from a camera shop taken on a D300 and used my memory card from my D70.

When I attach my card reader everything is fine and you can see the thumbnail, but when I try to open it, Explorer crashes.

I haven't bothered looking for raw patch specifically for it however as it was only a shot from within the shop where the D300 was.

Strange, I only use explorer to transfer files and have had no issues what so ever. I'm running 32bit VISTA.

Vista 64 bit / Internal card reader / D100, D200, D3

I use only Windows Explorer to transfer images from my 8GB Extreme IV to a card reader mounted in a 3½" bay, never had a problem. Good luck, please post your eventual solution - Bob

OH.. if this is the crash I think it is, I found the solution for my friend and her D3 on Vista:
"COM Surrogate has stopped working"
