I like the tonal ranges on both.
I like the 1st one, but the bright spots look a little hot to me.

Nice! I agree with Dan, I like #1 the best. #2, although I like the spotlight on the ground, I think maybe there is too much sky... How about cropping the sky above the clouds off? It just seemed to really strengthen the comp... Just a thought.

Nice stuff, Mooch! I agree with Jim's crop idea in the 2nd, and I like the simplicity and tonal qualities of that image very much!
