p.1 #1 · Asparagus

Got bored and shot some asparagus today. Not the most exciting vegetable around, but I thought it'd be nice to hang some more produce in/near the kitchen
Which works the best (if any!)? Honest Comments/critiques welcome!

I'll add my vote for #3 and add that I think 1 and 2 would also be quite nice with a bit of a bump in DOF. 7 also has nice potential but it just seems like its missing something, some sort of 'pop'. You'll forgive me as I am unaccustomed to providing feedback on images here, but perhaps what i'm looking for is more definition in the transition from the veggie to the background. I think image 6 comes close to what I mean, but I prefer the color version. I hope that makes some semblance of sense. Nice images though, always nice to see someone finding interesting subjects from everyday items.

As far as food shots are concerned, I would go with #1 for the composition and depth of field (which are marvelous). But for the sake of interest, I'd have to go with the majority of the voters and say #3. The 180° angle puts an interesting twist on a not-so-interesting subject.

Nicely done on all counts and the B&W Conversions are handled well. The tones definitely enhance the organic aspect of the produce.

Cheers.

I think you could discard #1 and #2 -- the limited d.o.f. doesn't do much for me. And I think it would be best to give #3 just a little more d.o.f. so the entire plate is in focus. But the remainder are really good -- and I should say really excellent. Inspires me to try a little food photography...

--Kind of reminds me of Edward Weston years ago with his famous pepper and cabbage (etc.) series -- he would go shopping for his vegetables in the morning, photograph them in the afternoon, and then eat them for dinner.

Thank you all for your input guys! Very helpful stuff. I don't shoot food for a living so this was really just an experiment. I obviously still have quite a bit to learn, and appreciate the comments

#3 is my favorite out of this bunch. #1 would easily be my favorite if all of the tips were sharp! I just got a copy of Helicon Focus. This would be a good set up to try it out.
