Here's another. this shows some kind of "tail" hidden below the rear "body" ?
would this be what leaf hoppers use to hop Brian ? kinda like a springtail ?
It would explain the fact that I've never seen one fly and when I tried to make one fly today it just kinda disappeared ! (rather than flew off that is) so maybe it's a fly mimicking Leaf hopper rather than a leaf hopper mimicking fly and the wings don't do anything ?
Now, that tail thing doesn't seem to be showing on the other pics (different fly) ?
If you can't identify it, send a picture to the australian museum by filling out a scientific request first. They'll contact you and ask for pictures with a scale if possible.

I may be a bit behind on bug ID, but informed of some type of Cicada?? I have also sent a few pics to a few sources to try to help ID if possible. This guy is getting a lot of attention!

Cicadas generally live at the tops of trees, going further up as they mature but I believe there are some that live at low level. although the abdomen looks similar and the eyes maybe I've not seen one with wings like this though, they always seem to be flat on the back at rest.
As I'm not from Oz, it's probably some really common insect they have here ! (although no-one I've shown it to has any idea what it is)
