p.1 #1 · Which Canada service centres?

I have just received my brand new 70-200/4L IS which seems fine, sort of. What I mean is everything function as normal, except it BF slightly at 70mm, and the top edge is a bit blurry and more severe toward the top right corner at 200mm. I am using 40D so I thought the blurriness would be more severe on 5D, but it wasn't. Anyway, to keep it brief, I think my copy is not so poor worth gambling on an exchange (mail order) hoping the replacement would be better. So, of the 3 Canon service centres in Canada, which one has the most reliable and best record? And which one to avoid? Also, the IS is louder than the EF-S17-55/2.8IS, is it normal? Many thanks!!

I prefer to use a local Certified Canon repair shop as my first step. In Halifax, I use the Camera Repair Centre on Hunter Street. The 40D has much higher resolution than the 5D (175 px/mm vs. 121 px/mm), so it makes sensse that the 40D shows more lens warts than the 5D.

My own experience with Mississauga has been less than confidence inspiring: lottsa interventions, repeat work etc. required to come to some sort of an acceptable resolution to repair problems.
Yet, their staff members are generally keen to do the right thing and please the customer, yet somehow as if they lack proper support and tools to do their job properly.
Therefore, my sense is that they have a problem right at the top of the organization....the outfit does not seem to be led and managed well.

I have had far more luck with the local shop in Toronto, Sun Camera. Repairs under warranty are free, everything works the same as if you took it to Canon, except repairs are far faster and actually done properly.

In my case it was my 500. It was substantially backfocusing. Sent it to Mississauga twice, Montreal once and nothing was fixed. Took it into Sun and they had it done in a week, and things look good now.

Thanks everyone. Looks like Mississauga got mentioned most, if not 100% recommend. Will have to try my luck I guess.

1 vote for Calgary SC here.

1 of my calibrations ended up at Sun Camera - I guess Calgary was too busy and passed it along.

I believe Calgary forwards most, if not all work to Mississauga/Sun. At least the more intensive repairs.
