p.1 #1 · New Here...

I was referred here by a guy in my car club. I am looking to get into photography. I am looking at a canon rebel XT. Back in school I did a lot of picture taking then got out of it. I am now wanting to get back in to the sway of things. I do not have a camera and am looking for one. I do not have a ton of cash to spend however I am looking for a good camera...one that is going to last a while and take good pictures. He said that your buying and selling site is reputable and trustworthy. So I am in the market for a camera (something close to the rebel xt if not) is what I am looking for. Any help would be great.
Thanks in advanced.
Dan

Hi, Dan. It's nice to see another Michigander here at FM.

The Canon Rebel XT is a nice entry level Digital Single Lens Reflex camera (DSLR). If you've had prior experience with a film Single Lens Relex camera (SLR), you shouldn't have any problems getting up to speed.

I owned a XT, had little prior experience, and after about 1 month of confusion, started taking nice photos with it. It's a popular DSLR and there are tons of forums and websites offering tutorials for the XT. Canon has the Digital Learning Center and offers some free easy to understand beginning tutorials. I bought the Canon XTi last year when it became available. I like the larger LCD screen, larger mega pixels, some menu navigating improvements compared to the XT, and the XTi automatic sensor cleaning function. Since the XTi has come out, XT cameras have dropped in price. You might consider the XTi. The price difference is not that much more than the XT.

However, if you really want the XT, you'll have a nice entry level DSLR with most of the features of an XTi.

I buy most of my cameras and supplies from B&H. The sales people are usually friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and don't mind a lot of questions.

Here's a link to B&H video's home page.

If you'd prefer direct phone contact with a sales person, call the toll free number on the home page.

The sales people aren't brand loyal and will discuss other brand names comparable to the Canon XT and/or XTi. I can't tell you from personal experience about other DSLR cameras besides Canon XT and XTi. Do a little research before you buy and have fun.

Hi Dan
I shoot Nikon D2h primarily, but I bought a Rebel XTi for my better half...I must admit I've 'stolen' it a few times...it is an outstanding camera. If it wasn't for the fact that I need a tougher built body, it just might have 'accidentally' ended up in my bag! IMHO, it's an excellent choice and much improved over the XT.
